Interior OKs expanded oil activity in Alaska petroleum reserve

Posted on

The Trump administration has finalized its plans to expand drilling in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A), upsetting environmentalists by creeping toward protected territory within the reserve.

The approval of the Willow Project allows ConocoPhillips to produce up to 590 million total barrels of oil over the next 30 years.

Eames House | Eames Foundation

Posted on

The Eames House, also known as Case Study House No. 8, is a landmark of mid-20th century modern architecture located in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. It was designed and constructed in 1949 by husband-and-wife Charles and Ray Eames to serve as their home and studio. They lived in their home until their deaths: Charles in 1978 and Ray, ten years to the day, in 1988.

It was a home filled with gifts from friends, family and colleagues. The way the Eameses lived their life in their home echoed how they lived their life at work. They anticipated their guests’ needs – whether welcoming visitors at the house with delightful treats or when designing a chair and considering how best to meet the needs of the user — the guest in this case. They believed in the iterative process: the redesigning and rethinking of a project to improve

White House willing to cut a stimulus deal without ‘liability shield,’ breaking with McConnell

Posted on

One of the people familiar with the administration’s thinking said the measure was “considered important but not absolutely essential.”

White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany told reporters on Friday that the liability shield was McConnell’s priority but that Trump wanted unemployment insurance extended.

“That’s a question for Mitch McConnell … that’s his priority,” McEnany said, when asked if the administration would insist on a liability shield. “This president is very keenly focused on unemployment insurance.”

The dealmaking flexibility conflicts with the ultimatum McConnell has given Democrats that any congressional stimulus package must make it significantly harder for workers and customers to sue employers and businesses for damages related to the coronavirus.

McConnell has said he will not bring up legislation for a vote in the Senate if it does not include the liability measure. “We’re not negotiating over liability protection,” McConnell told CNBC on Tuesday. “We’re not negotiating with Democrats over

THE PASSION FOR OUR FOOD

Paul Harwood’s Fish House is a new restaurant in Newquay located on Fistral Beach a stones throw from the sea. The inspiration for our food comes straight from the sea, using locally caught fish and shell fish caught straight from Newquay harbour. We use the best seasonal ingredients available, to create rustic dishes with authentic flavours. What better way to finish a day on the beach than watching the sunset eating amazing food and soaking up the atmosphere.

ABOUT PAUL…

Paul harwood has lived in Cornwall for 25 years and is passionate about cooking seafood having learnt his skills working for Rick Stein for 14 years in Padstow.

Previously Paul spent many years travelling the globe to exotic destinations sampling local cuisine but also fulfilling his other passion of surfing.

When the opportunity arose to open at Britains most famous surfing beach Fistral, Paul and

Hortamuseum – Welcome

Posted on

The Horta Museum is located in the private house and studio of Victor Horta (1861-1947).

Built between 1898 and 1901 at 23-25, rue Américaine in Saint-Gilles, Brussels, the two buildings are typical of Art Nouveau at its height. The interior decoration has largely been retained, the mosaics, stained glass, and wall decorations forming a harmonious and elegant whole, down to the last detail.

Through an assessment of the architectural ironmongery collection drawn by Victor Horta, the Horta Museum has been able to update its inventory. It is now available online in its entirety thanks to the Région de Bruxelles-Capitale. We shall then discover the work of Victor Horta in the form of keys, knobs, keyholes… This inventory will soon be completed in addition to the one for the plaster models by the artist.
