US Interior secretary approves Cherokee Nation Constitution | National News

U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland approved a new constitution for the Cherokee Nation on Wednesday, ensuring citizenship for descendants of its Freedmen, the Black people once enslaved by tribal citizens.

“The Cherokee Nation’s actions have brought this longstanding issue to a close and have importantly fulfilled their obligations to the Cherokee Freedmen,” Haaland said in a statement.

The issue of tribal citizenship for Freedmen has long been the subject of litigation for the Five Tribes, known historically as the Five Civilized Tribes: the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muscogee and Seminole nations.

The Cherokee Nation is the only one of the five that has granted full citizenship to its Freedmen, who number about 8,500.

Interior Department approves wind farm off Martha’s Vineyard | Wapo

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration on Monday moved toward approving the nation’s first large-scale offshore wind farm about 12 nautical miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., a project that officials say will launch a massive clean-power expansion in the fight against climate change.

In completing a final environmental review of Vineyard Wind, the Interior Department endorsed an idea that had been conceived two decades ago but had run into a well-funded and organized opposition from waterfront property owners on the tony island, including then-Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., who died in 2009, and the billionaire industrialist Bill Koch.

The $2.8 billion project that won Interior Department approval Monday would be built several miles south of the original plan fought by the Kennedy family and would be out of sight from the family’s Hyannis compound.

The House late Wednesday night gave the green light to the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in a 220-212 vote.

The vote was initially scheduled to happen Thursday but was moved up due to a potential threat to the Capitol related to the QAnon conspiracy theory.

Spin-Off Transaction Expected to be Completed in Mid-April

 Construction of MSG Sphere in Las Vegas to be Temporarily Suspended

NEW YORK, March 31, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Madison Square Garden Company (NYSE: MSG) today announced that its board of directors has approved the spin-off of its entertainment businesses from its sports businesses, which is expected to be completed in mid-April. In addition, the Company provided an update on its MSG Sphere construction in Las Vegas.

Two Distinct Companies for Shareholders
Upon completion of the spin-off transaction, MSG will be a pure-play sports company and will change its name to Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (MSG Sports), while the newly-formed entertainment company will be named Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. (MSG Entertainment).
