Trump returns to Rose Garden to claim ‘China will own US’ if he’s not re-elected

Posted on

Donald Trump returned to the White House Garden following his hospitalisation with the coronavirus to declare that if he loses his re-election in 20 days, “China will own the United States.”

He delivered a virtual address on Wednesday after hosting a likely “super-spreader” ceremony at the Rose Garden to announce his Supreme Court nominee last month.

In his remarks, the president attacked his Democratic opponent Joe Biden, who the president claimed will oversee economic devastation and “punish” workers, as millions of Americans continue to file for unemployment benefits eight months into a pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 Americans and shuttered businesses in the economic fallout.

The president – speaking with a raspy voice following his illness and return to campaign rallies – told members of the Economic Clubs of New York, Florida, Washington DC, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Sheboygan that the election is a “simple” choice between “historic prosperity”

Community garden provides a model for what could be

In the dead of winter when nothing is growing on the Northern Plains, our modern food system bring us produce from the “Smile” of southern states from California to the East Coast, as well as all the way down through Mexico and South America. I appreciate the accessibility of year-round fresh produce that my ancestors never had.

Gardening alongside farming rooted a rural way of life for generations before me. Modern-day rural life allowed me to give up gardening four or five years ago while juggling kids’ schedules and a heavier workload and rely on farmers markets and on my grocery store for fresh produce. And while I have missed the beauty of canned vegetables, fruits and sauces on my pantry shelf, I haven’t missed the work of “putting up a garden” this time of year as my ancestors did to feed their families through the winter.

The Rochester Garden Club has initiated a new scholarship program for elementary school students in the Rochester area this year. As a part of its mission, the club supports environmental education and is especially interested in helping students of all ages experience the natural world. Graduating seniors receive scholarships toward college degrees in environmental studies, middle school students are sent to a weeklong 4-H sponsored sleep away camp for environmental education and now elementary students can attend the “Nature Discovery Camp” hosted by the City of Rochester Hills.

In late June, Chace Browe (age 7) enjoyed his outdoor experience with the help of naturalists at Bloomer Park. He had great fun observing “the biggest crayfish” in the water and wanted to pet the wild turkeys they found

U.S. labour secretary’s wife, who was at Rose Garden event, tests positive for coronavirus

Posted on

The U.S. Labour Department announced in a news release Tuesday night that Secretary Eugene Scalia’s wife, Trish, has tested positive for coronavirus. The announcement said that Eugene Scalia has tested negative so far but will work from home “for the time being.”

Both Eugene and Trish Scalia attended the Rose Garden event where President Donald Trump announced Judge Amy Coney Barrett was his pick to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. They were seated in the second row, directly behind first lady Melania Trump and next to former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway — both of whom would later test positive for Covid-19.

“This afternoon, doctors confirmed that U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia’s wife, Trish, tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Mrs. Scalia is experiencing mild symptoms but doing well,” the release stated.

“This evening, Secretary Scalia received a test and the results were negative; he

Vacant lot in Driving Park becomes garden that nourishes souls

As the beat of West African drums carried through the neighborhood and the smoke from a fire built especially for s’mores swirled in the air, Iesha Hardy snaked her way through the garden beds and plucked some of the last of this season’s harvest.

Into her plastic bags she stuffed eggplant and tomatoes and collard greens and kale — and that was just to start. Daughter Bella had picked a pumpkin from the patch and dropped it into a bag, too.

Deputy, armed suspect wrestle for weapon in Fresno’s Fig Garden neighborhood

Posted on

A deputy escaped injury early Tuesday in Fig Garden after wrestling with a man on parole armed with a concealed pistol, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti reported.

The suspect, Joshua Right, 27, was pulled over at North Palm and North Santa Fe avenues about 2 a.m., because of an expired motorcycle registration. Right refused to allow the deputy to search him, although he was on parole for armed robbery, Botti said.

Right reportedly pulled his arm away from a handcuff and tried to run. As the deputy tackled Right, a wrestling match ensued and the suspect reached for his waistband as the deputy made hand strikes to the side of Right’s head. Right was able to run before he was chased down and subdued.

Deputies recovered a compact 9 mm handgun and booked Right on charges of being a felon in possession of firearm. Bail was set
