Contact tracing for White House outbreak came too late, experts say

Posted on

  • President Donald Trump and at least 34 White House staffers and contacts have been infected with the coronavirus following Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination ceremony at the White House Rose Garden on September 26.
  • The White House accepted the CDC’s offer to help with contact tracing on Wednesday, The Washington Post reported.
  • Epidemiologists say those efforts may have come too late: People should be tested within two weeks of getting exposed.
  • The outbreak has likely “spread beyond the White House at this point,” one expert said.

Recent visitors to the White House received a letter from health officials on Thursday. It came with a warning: If they had worked in the White House in the past two weeks, attended the recent Supreme Court announcement ceremony, or had close contact with people who fit that description, they should get tested for the coronavirus. John Lennon’s sister Julia remembers late singer on his 80th birthday

John Lennon’s sister has opened up about growing up with the late singer in Liverpool, revealing their mother would rehearse with the Beatles as teens in the kitchen.

Julia Baird, 73, who continues to live in Liverpool, appeared on This Morning today to mark what would have been the music legend’s 80th birthday , and told of the ‘close knit’ family unit in which she and John grew up.

She told how their mother, who was also called Julia, always ‘encouraged’ the singer’s dreams, despite other parents they knew deterring their children from pursuing a career in music.

John’s sister told how their mum would play the ‘washboard and the banjo’ as her son practised in their Springwood home, and that her brother and pal Paul McCartney had a ‘determination’ that other young musicians didn’t.

Late to the Garden Party

Spring is in full force here and at this time of year it seems impossible to cover everything that’s in bloom.  I decided to focus on the blue flowers and give shorter shrift to those in other colors.  Still, be forewarned, this is a long post even for me.

Blue blooms are prominent in my garden in spring when the Iris bloom and again in summer when the Agapanthus bloom.   I seem to acquire more blue Iris every year and they’re make a particularly big splash this year.

I’ve added Dutch Iris to the garden in increments over the last 4 years.  The largest number of these surround the fountain in the back garden.

Iris hollandica ‘Sapphire Beauty’ was blooming last month but the flowers are more prolific now

‘Mystic Beauty’ made its appearance this month

The Pacific Coast Irises are going strong his month too.  This is Iris douglasiana

Nancy Pelosi Shows Off Her Kitchen During ‘Late Late Show’ Appearance While Americans Form Food Lines

Posted on

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi showed off her kitchen during an appearance on a late night comedy show, while Americans form food lines across the country.

Pelosi appeared on Monday’s episode of “The Late Late Show” with James Corden, where she slammed President Donald Trump’s handling of COVID-19 and then showed off her ice cream collection.

Pelosi, who recently delayed a coronavirus stimulus package, accused Trump of spreading misinformation regarding COVID-19 and shared information she received from experts and scientists.

Pelosi attempted to include diversity and climate-related provisions into the coronavirus stimulus package that were unrelated to the public health crisis. Pelosi’s own version of the stimulus package included unprecedented collective bargaining powers for unions, increased fuel emissions standards for airlines and expanded wind and solar tax credits.

“I felt very responsible to speak out more clearly,” Pelosi said. “Even though we know the public wants us to work together,
